Dr. Michael Johns

Michael Johns is a former Associate Professor and Vice Dean of Arts at Laurentian University and current Instructor at Georgian College and Visiting Professor at York University. He earned his PhD in Government and Politics from the University of Maryland and holds a MA in Government and Politics from Maryland and a MSc. in Comparative Politics from the London School of Economics.

His research and teaching interests include minority rights in the European Union and issues that impact levels of social cohesion such as electoral systems. Dr. Johns was a Facilitator for the 2007 Ontario Citizens’ Assembly on Electoral Reform and has twice served as an electoral monitor in Ukraine- most recently in 2019 when he observed the parliamentary election in the city Mariupol in the disputed Donetsk region
